Trustees' Reflection

Hajj, Qurbani, and the
Quiet Work of Trust

A reflection from the trustees of Moosa Trust UK

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
Assalamu Alaikum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuh,

In the coming weeks, as pilgrims gather on Arafah for Hajj, families across the world, including ours here in Blackburn, will begin the quiet preparations of Qurbani.

Qurbani is the act of sacrificing an animal during the days of Eid al-Adha, in remembrance of Prophet Ibrahim's (AS) willingness to sacrifice his son at Allah's command. The meat is divided into three parts: for family, for friends and neighbours, and for those in need. It is an act of worship that every adult Muslim of means is called to perform.

The animals behind the act: livestock raised for Qurbani, far from the homes that will receive the meat.

For most of us in the UK, it is also an act performed at distance. We send the money, and somewhere far away, a family receives meat. Sometimes it is the only meat they will eat in months.

That distance is where trust enters.

"The value of Qurbani is not in the act itself; it is in the journey it takes, from your intention to a family who eats that night."

The lesson our family learned

Long before there was a Moosa Trust UK, there was a family habit. Each year, our Qurbani has gone through Anjuman Nusratul Gaoraba Foundation in Hasnabad, West Bengal, a partner whose word we have come to depend on. They handle the sacrifice, the distribution, the small details that, from this distance, normally we can never see for ourselves. Our partner sends back pictures and videos as confirmation, so even from across the world, we know what we asked for was done.

We have learned, slowly, that the value of Qurbani is not in the act itself but in the journey it takes: from your intention, to a family who eats that night. If any link in that chain is weak, the whole thing falls.

That is why partners matter. Not the flashiest. Not the largest. The ones who pick up the phone.

What this means for Moosa Trust UK

We founded Moosa Trust UK on a simple commitment: 100% of every donation reaches the people it is meant for.

As we grow, slowly and deliberately, insha'Allah, we are building partnerships the same way our family always has. Local. Long-term. Verifiable.

We are not yet able to facilitate Qurbani directly; that, insha'Allah, will come. This year, our family's Qurbani continues to flow through the partner who has earned that trust over many years.

May Allah accept your sacrifices, your prayers, and your intentions in this blessed season.

Jazakum Allahu Khayran for your continued trust and du'a. Whether your Qurbani goes through us one day or through a partner of your own, may every link in its chain be strong: from your intention, through the hands that carry it, to the family who eats that night.
